Steps for writing a research paper

As I have already written in my previous posts, tutor is the first person to help you with research paper writing.  My tutor advised the following steps for writing a research paper:

  1. Choose a narrow topic and set a question
  2. Identify articles and books, make notes
  3. Create a research paper outline.
  4. Start writing a first draft.
  5. Leave introduction writing till the end
  6. Proofread and edit.

I think that without these essential steps for writing a research paper it would impossible to create a worthy essay.  I concluded my research paper on the role of women in ancient Egypt with the following conclusion:

“… Women in ancient Egypt had relatively free life and had authority in social and political spheres.  There were not feminists, however, they were aware of their power in society and we willing to use it.  Egyptian women helped their husbands in management of the household; they were able to get education and to be employed.  Nevertheless, Maat law required women to be inferior to men, to remain weak women…”

The above research paper example conclusion is far from ideal; however, my tutor liked it.  I hope I have paid attention to the word “Maat.  Maat is a personification of harmony and order.  Maat was a person, similar to god, and she was drawn in the guise of a beautiful woman with ostrich’s feather in hair. She is opposed to mistress of chaos Isefet. It is strongly recommended to provide short definitions of specific words and terms throughout the research paper.  While writing a research paper, you must remember that unknown or specific words used in your research paper distract attention of the reader and distort the effectiveness of the whole essay.

The structure of research paper writing must be meaningful.  You may gather a lot of information, however, you may fail to link it logically.  All of your ideas should be connected using some pattern and every paragraph should contain new idea related to the topic.  Make sure to rely only on proved facts, avoid assumptions.  It is also very important to ensure that conclusion returns to the main idea.  In other words, conclusion should restate introduction.  As the last section of your research paper, it should round up the whole writing and leave a positive impression.  If you have to write a research Kathryn Lamm, for example, or research paper on tsunami, all of the above advices can be applied.  Any topic can be dissected into numerous ideas.  Do not be afraid to experiment and to write something unusual.  Original research papers are interesting to read as well as engaging to write.  Good luck with your research paper writing!
